In an order issued Aug. 31, a federal judge struck down amendments to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that increased the minimum salary requirement for overtime exemption.
 
U.S. District Court Judge Amos Mazzant concluded that the Department of Labor (DOL) had set the salary threshold so high that it essentially eliminated the question of job duties in determining exemption – something the DOL does not have the authority to do.
